Rory Feek/This Life I Live
It’s just less than three weeks until Christmas. And, while most of us are going through our normal holiday routine, others are finding a new normal because of unforeseen circumstances.
Such is the case with Joey and Rory Feek. Many changes have taken place for the award-winning country duo since Joey’s cancer diagnosis this summer. In October, after aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the couple was told that there was nothing else that could be done for Joey medically. Until last week, the couple and their daughter had been living with Joey’s family in her childhood home. But, thanks to a member of the community offering a house, the family moved into a larger home nearby just in time to make new Christmas memories.
In a recent blog post from Rory, he shared why Christmas is his favorite time of the year and how one local pizza place stepped up to help make this Christmas extra special.
“My wife knows I love Christmas. I always have. It’s something she learned early on in our marriage about me. Our older girls Heidi and Hopie are the same way. There’s a magic that’s in the air that isn’t there any other time of the year.”
Rory continued, “Christmas does what no amount of New Years resolutions or self-help books can do… it changes people. It brings out the very best in us, and in others.”
He went on to share that, once again, they ordered pizza for dinner from the local Pizza King. When he arrived to pick up the pizza, they refused to let him pay…again. But, this visit to the pizza place was different than the rest as the girl at the counter handed Rory a large bag of Christmas gifts for their daughter, Indiana.
“When I got back to the house, Joey’s sisters and I opened the bag and realized that those nice folks had bought and wrapped 25 separate presents (they’re all different books I think) for Indiana to open… one each day from December 1st, all the way through Christmas. What a beautiful, thoughtful thing to do.”

“We have a Christmas tree and some decorations up and thanks to the nice folks at Pizza King, it’s starting to feel like Christmas. And not just any Christmas – a very special Christmas – one that we’ll never forget.”
