During the summer of 2015, what some are calling “the summer of divorces,” one of the most shocking splits was that of Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock. The couple had worked together for more than 35 years and had been married for 26, making one of the most dynamic professional teams in country music.
Even though the couple announced their separation earlier this year, many of us hoped that they would work things out. But, unfortunately that didn’t happen. In a post to Facebook yesterday (Dec. 17), Reba shared a photo of her and her team including Blackstock. The caption read: “So proud of these people. They have been with me for over 20 years. Pictured l to r, Brian Leedham 24 years, Narvel Blackstock 35 years me, Penny Chubb 22 years. Top row Doug Sisemore 23 years and Cliff Williamson 23 years.”
In the photo, a smiling Reba is seated next to a not-so-smiling Narvel Blackstock. But, it’s the comment Reba made below that got our attention. It’s tough to tell if she was responding to a question asked by a fan, or if it was simply an announcement, but her post read, “Narvel and I are divorced. It was final October 28.”
The couple issued a statement about their separation in early August saying, “In a joint statement, Narvel Blackstock and Reba McEntire have announced that they have been separated for the past few months, after 26 years of marriage. Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time.”
Even though it’s sad to see their marriage come to an end, they’ve made it clear that their professional relationship is still strong. We wish them both the very best!
