One year during Christmas season Brantley Gilbert was hit with Spirit of giving.
With the help of Bendon, Inc., a children's book publishing company, Gilbert donated $10.5 million to Toys for Tots. Yes, you read that right! 10.5 million dollars!
Gilbert understands what it's like to not have much around Christmas.
“Growing up in rural Georgia, I know that sometimes Christmas isn’t a time of joy for some kids," he says. "Our contribution might be all they receive this year so I really wanted our donation to matter.”
Gilbert is a known supporter of the military and has even helped launch "The Rolling Odyssey", a motorcycle ride from Houston to Baton Rouge and back, with the Wounded Warrior Project.
Because of his history of giving back to the military, his involvement with the Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots is no surprise at all, and he is honored to do it.
“I’m honored the folks at Bendon understood why I wanted to work with them and Toys for Tots. Bendon’s books have some pretty cool heroes and lessons for all ages like Batman, Superman and Clifford the Big Red Dog to Disney, Peanuts and some of my favorites, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Whether a kid is into Barbie or Star Wars, I hope we’ve given a bit of fun and inspiration."
In a statement from Benton CEO Ben Ferguson, he says, "The holidays are a tough period of time for many families, and if we are able to bring a little happiness to a child with a gift which they may not have been otherwise given, than that’s a success. We can not be more excited to partner with Brantley Gilbert on this donation. He clearly supports and honors our military and his generosity and charitable work prompted me to align Bendon's donation with him to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation."
Their donation is not only heart-warming, it is also record-breaking.
"They tell me this is one of the largest donations Toys for Tots has ever received. Ben and his team realize the impact we could make is these kids’ lives,” Gilbert says. “It’s a privilege to make this contribution together.”
They just made a lot of kids extremely happy for Christmas and we know Gilbert couldn't be happier.
