The search is still underway for Craig Strickland, lead singer for country band Backroad Anthem, who went missing along with his friend, Chase Morland, during a duck hunting trip in Oklahoma over the weekend. A fishing boat belonging to the men was found overturned in Kaw Lake along with the body of Morland. However, Strickland’s dog was found alive on the bank of the lake giving hope to family and friends that Strickland may still be alive.
While the families of Strickland and Morland were gathered together for a prayer vigil in their Arkansas hometown, one animal rights activist took to Facebook to slam the men (and hunters everywhere) with a chilling post calling for their demise.
In the post that has since been deleted, activist Gary Yourofsky boasted that “the earth decided to rid itself of two scumbags/pieces of s*** who were out murdering ducks for fun.” He went on to say that he hoped they suffered horribly. “I hope they, and anyone who feels sorry for them, rot in HELL!,” Yourofsky wrote.
The post drew outrage from hunting enthusiasts everywhere causing Yourofsky to remove his statement. When asked why he deleted his recent post about the missing hunters, Yourofsky claims that he used the situation to gain new page followers. “…only posted that s***to get a phalanx of new viewers to the page. it worked. sadly, MOST won't listen because they can't read/comprehend, but I promise at least 1 of those folks will awaken. plus, I like to reply to every email, and there were way too many coming in and I couldn't keep up.”
In the meantime, Backroad Anthem posted a beautiful tribute to their lead singer and are holding on to every hope that he will be found alive.
