Helen Strickland is mourning the loss of her husband, but is finding comfort in photos, videos, and letters that he wrote to her.

Craig Strickland’s body was discovered near Kaw Lake in Oklahoma on Monday (Jan. 4), one week after he and his friend, Chase Morland, went missing. Strickland’s wife was the picture of composure and grace through the search and recovery efforts and continues to be as she makes plans to lay her husband to rest.

In a recent post to Instagram, Helen Strickland shared a letter Craig wrote for her to read on their wedding day. Helen called the letter a “precious treasure” and laughed at Craig’s sense of humor.

“Today I found this precious treasure Craig wrote for me to read on the day of our wedding. The Lord is good always…I know this because in the the most heart aching moments, when it seems too difficult to bare, God knows just how to make me smile. ❤️
”I almost wrote Greg?” – Lol, oh #craigstrickland, how I love you,” the caption reads.

Craig, lead singer for country-rock band Backroad Anthem, and Helen, former Miss Arkansas USA, had quite a love story. Helen met Craig through mutual friends who also happened to be Craig’s band mates. At the time, Helen was dating someone else, but Strickland staked his claim as soon as they broke up.

Roughly a year later, Helen was competing in the Miss Arkansas USA pageant and Craig had big plans. The singer had come to the pageant prepared just in case she won. When Helen was crowned Miss Arkansas, Craig walked up on stage and proposed.

They had no idea what God had planned for them or the twists and turns their story would take. But, Helen Strickland worded it best when she wrote:

“It is not what we intend our lives to be, but what He intends for our lives.” (C.S. Lewis) Well Craig Michael, looks at what amazing things God intended for your life. I am so proud of you and the impact you have had on this world….”

In a recent interview with CNN, Helen Strickland recalls her last hours with her husband. Watch the video below.
