Fans of Joey+Rory let out a collective disappointed sigh when the duo wasn’t named as winner of this year’s Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. The husband-wife duo’s huge following, and even some of their fellow nominees, were rooting for them to bring home the win. But, for Joey and Rory Feek, the nomination was more than enough.
In a simple photo of their Grammy nominee medal posted to the couple’s Instagram account, they let their fans know that they are okay with the way things turned out.
Joey and Rory were represented at the Grammy festivities by their adult daughters, Heidi and Hopie, and Rory’s cousin and manager, Aaron Carnahan. Joey urged her husband to attend and even purchased him an airline ticket. But, Rory refused to miss even one moment with his wife who is in the final stages of her cancer battle.
“Joey tried to talk me into going with them… many, many times,” Rory wrote on Friday. “She even had a Southwest ticket purchased for me that I cancelled. I can’t leave her. I won’t. I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them. Instead, I will be sitting beside her and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others. It’s an honor for us to just be a part of that night, it truly is.”
Throughout the Grammy Award events, Heidi posted pictures of her and Hopie attending the events and included a photo of two rings that had been given to them by Joey. The photo caption read: “Jo recently gave Hopie and I some of her favorite jewelry pieces. We wanted to wear some of our favorites while we’re here.”
While it would have been wonderful to see Joey+Rory win a Grammy award, we agree that the nomination was more than enough.
