On May 30, 1966, Dolly Parton said "I do" to her husband, Carl Dean in Riggold, Georgia. Dean runs an asphalt road-paving business in Nashville, and tries to stay out of the spotlight as much as he can. As a result, he is somewhat of a mystery in the country music community, since there are few pictures of him and Parton together and he's only been to one of her shows.
Despite his absence from the public scene, Dean has served as a huge source of support for Parton throughout her career, and the couple are set to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
In an interview with Xpose.ie, Parton shared how she never had any doubts that her and Dean would be together "until death do us part."
"I feel lucky and blessed," Parton said. "I never doubted for a minute that we would be married 50 years as long as we were both alive. Carl is my husband and my best friend so we have had a solid foundation to deal with all of the craziness that comes with a performing career."
To celebrate their golden anniversary, Parton and Dean plan on having a large party at her 60-acre estate at outside of Nashville. The party is sure to be a star-studded event, but will also provide the perfect opportunity for Parton to spend time with her large extended family.
When asked by People magazine what Parton and Dean's key is to a successful, long-lasting marriage, she said the main answer is simple.
"My husband is a good man, first of all," Parton said.
Parton admits that her and Dean are exact opposites in almost every way, but they have enough things in common with one another to make for a strong relationship.
"But when we're together, we have enough things in common that it works," she said. "We love the simple life. We can be calm and just have a good time."
How sweet is that?
We wish Parton and Dean many more years of happiness together, and hope they enjoy their 50th anniversary celebration in May!
