A Song That Tells Tender Story

If you know country music, then you know this song.

The Trace Adkins classic, “You’re Gonna Miss This” resonates with listeners from every generation. Chances are the lyrics can be applied to whatever you are going through in life.

You’re Gonna Miss This was written by Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller. Both are accomplished songwriters who have separately co-written numerous hit songs. Those songs include George Strait’s “If the Whole World Was a Honky Tonk” and Garth Brooks’ People Loving People.”

But when these two talented writers got together, the result was a beautifully meaningful country chart-topper.

The Chart-Topping Heartwarmer

You’re Gonna Miss This was released on Adkins’ album American Man: Greatest Hits Volume II. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song also crossed over to claim the 12th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

You’ll frequently hear “You’re Gonna Miss This” during graduation season. It’s the perfect song to play as graduates and parents reflect on the past and look to the future.

The song follows a daughter as she goes from childhood to motherhood. During each stage of life, she expresses her desire to move forward. But her parents keep telling her, “You’re gonna miss this. You’re gonna want this back. You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast.

Enhancing Emotions In Music Video

As a father himself, it’s no surprise why Adkins was able to connect to the song. His heartfelt delivery of the lyrics give it extra emotional impact.

The music video complements the story told in the song. It features scenes with a young woman moving through the various stages of her life. Adkins appears in the video as well, driving his pickup around town. That town  happens to be his real-life hometown of Sarepta, Louisiana.

“You’re Gonna Miss This” has stood the test of time after all of these years. It remains one of Adkins’ most beloved tracks. Watch the song’s touching music video in below.
