Leading up to the debut of its new season on February 26, The Voice has been sharing a wealth of promotional material. Many of these clips focus on the friendly banter between coaches, making it seem like this may be the most competitive season yet.
A new clip The Voice shared on Wednesday (February 14) proves that the coaches are more determined than ever to make sure they have the best teams. In this particular clip, each coach explains why Voice contestants should choose them as a coach over any of their other options.
Of course, a couple of the coaches weren’t afraid to toss out a few friendly jabs at one another. It probably won’t surprise you to hear that those couple of coaches were Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
As the only two coaches who have participated in all seasons of The Voice, Shelton and Levine’s rivalry stretches back for years. They’ve become quite the experts at making fun of each other, though some of their tactics are a bit ridiculous.
Shelton kicked off his testimonial by saying that he would be a good pick as a coach for one obvious reason. “I’m not Adam,” he said. “I mean, that’s a check in my box right off the bat if you ask me.”
So what did Levine have to say in response? He decided to hurl a slightly absurd accusation at his good pal, hoping that it would make singers less likely to pick him. “I’m not Blake Shelton,” he said. “I own more than one shirt. Can’t say the same for Captain Country.”
While we don’t totally buy that claim, we will admit that many of Shelton’s outfits look similar!
Even if he does only own one shirt, that hasn’t harmed Shelton’s capabilities as a coach. As he made sure to mention, he has won the show more times than anyone else.
“You know…I’ve won the show six times,” Shelton said with a laugh. “I mean, there’s that too.“
