Opera singer and Season 3 America's Got Talent champion, Neal E. Boyd, in critical condition after suffering a serious car crash over the weekend (Jan.22) according to a report issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Esther, Boyd's 62-year-old mother, was accompanying him in the car when his car swerved off the right side of the road, hit a tree, and became airborne before striking another tree this past Saturday.
Boyd and his mother were both transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and have both been placed under serious condition. KFVS - a local CBS news station - reported that while Esther was wearing her seatbelt, Neal was not.
The former insurance salesman won the heart of the nation back in 2008 after taking the AGT stage for an emotional audition of opera song "Nessun Dorma". "I didn't realize we were poor until my mama told me I was, but we got through," he said prior to his audition. "It was my mom who really kept the family together... If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't have had the confidence to sing for the first time in first grade."
Boyd performed at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida back in 2012, delivering a powerful rendition of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."
