Since Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s debut album did so well, they knew they had a lot to live up to with their sophomore release. As we now know, they more than exceeded any sort of expectations with their second album, appropriately titled Second Helping.

From “Sweet Home Alabama” to “The Ballad of Curtis Loew,” Second Helping contains some of Skynyrd’s most noteworthy tracks. They are tracks that the band still continues to perform today, all because the fans love to hear them.

Another Second Helping song that Skynyrd’s fans never seem to get tired of hearing is “The Needle and the Spoon.” Although the song is arguably the hidden gem of Second Helping, it oddly hasn’t been covered that many times before.

When fans cover Skynyrd, they often opt for the more popular songs or the complicated “Free Bird.” But one anonymous guitarist went out on a limb and decided to offer up a short cover of “The Needle and the Spoon.” And let us tell ya, it’s a good thing he did.

Operating under the YouTube name of fender guy, this unknown guitarist made the choice to focus his camera on his guitar instead of his face. While it may seem like an odd choice to some, it is actually genius. By focusing the camera in such a way, fender guy makes sure that your attention never drifts away from his guitar playing.

But even if he shot the scene from half a mile away, we’re sure you still wouldn’t be able to take your eyes off of him. In fact, the only thing wrong with his cover is that it lasts for less than a minute! However, it takes even less time than that to be wowed by this guy’s obvious skills.

Go ahead and tune in below to watch this guitarist churn out one rockin’ cover of “The Needle and the Spoon.” If you like what you hear, go ahead and visit his YouTube page here. He has a full-length cover of Skynyrd’s “I Need You” over there!
