Country singer Rodney Atkins and his wife Rose, also a singer and songwriter, have welcomed their first child together.
Ryder Falcon Atkins was born in Nashville on Thursday (December 14). The couple honored Rose’s side of the family with the baby’s name.
“Falcon is Rose’s maiden name, and I really wanted to honor her dad and her 96-year-old grandpa,” 48-year old Atkins told PEOPLE. “I always loved the name Ry, and Rose came up with Ryder — Ryder Falcon!”
Ryder measured 20 inches long and weighed 8 lbs., 13 oz. He is the first child for the couple who married in 2013, and joins Rodney’s 16-year-old son, Elijah, from a previous marriage.
“He is by far the most precious early Christmas present ever for me, Rose and big brother Eli,” said Rodney of their new addition.
Congratulations to Rodney and Rose!
