The Haggard legacy lives on!
Ben Haggard, the youngest son of the late Merle Haggard, is going solo after many years spent playing lead guitar in his famous father’s band.
According to Music Row, the 24-year-old is finally venturing out on his own by signing a deal with BMI, a prestigious performing rights organization on Thursday (Sept. 1). According to their website, “BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that want to play their music publicly.”
Ben has already shown his talents as a singer and musician, and from his social media pages, he shows promise as a songwriter as well. BMI saw the same thing we did in him and we could not be more excited!

Ben has been on the road touring with his older brother, Noel, where they are finishing up the tour dates Merle was scheduled for before his death on April 6.
Up until now, we have only seen Ben perform covers and we are excited to hear what his songwriting will be like. He had a great teacher in his father, who is considered one of the best songwriters country music has ever seen.
Watch Ben sing his “all time favorite song”, his father’s 1979 hit “Footlights”, below.
