A couple years ago, Billy Ray Cyrus signed on to executive produce and star in a new show on CMT.

Admitting to reinventing himself at least a couple times in his career, Cyrus is sure his latest reinvention will stick. He’s been a country heartthrob, star of a Disney Channel show, and an actor, but he felt he had more to offer the world.

How do you reinvent out of ‘Hannah Montana’?” he asked himself in an interview with the New York Times. “And then it hit me: A dysfunctional Elvis impersonator who lies his way into the church. That made sense.

His show, Still The King, is about just that. A dysfunctional Elvis impersonator who lies his way into the church! His character also finds out he has a 15-year-old daughter he didn’t know about and the comedy follows his journey into becoming a dad and doing “all the wrong things for all the right reasons”.

Still The King premiered on CMT on June 12th to less than stellar reviews from critics.

Fans, on the other hand, fell in love with the show. They flood the show’s Facebook with comments after every episode saying how much they love it and how they look forward to watching the show every Sunday.

Well, they’re in luck because CMT just announced that Still The King has been renewed for a second season!

The Season 1 finale will air August 14 and Season 2 production begins this fall.

“Working on the series has been a career highlight,” said Cyrus told Music Row. “Thanks to the fans for embracing these crazy characters and all of their beautiful flaws. We’re going to take this mess to a whole new level next season.”

He also reinvented himself musically. His upcoming album, Thin Line, which is available on September 9th, began as a tribute to his favorite singers and is filled with Highwaymen songs, a Waylon Jennings tune and a tribute to the late Merle Haggard.

If you preorder the album here on Amazon or here on iTunes, you will receive an instant download of “Hey Elvis” featuring legendary rocker Glenn Hughes and a remake of the Don Williams classic “Tulsa Time” featuring Aerosmith rocker Joe Perry.
