In April 2001, a 24-year-old singer named Blake Shelton made his country music debut with his first single, “Austin.” Before long, he was a household name, as “Austin” made its way to the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.
“Austin” was the first of 24 singles that Shelton has topped the charts with over the course of the past 16 years. In 2014, he broke the Country Airplay chart’s record for the most consecutive number one singles when “Doin’ What She Likes” hit number one on that chart.
Six additional number one singles followed, bringing Shelton’s total of consecutive number ones to 17. Shelton’s chart-topping streak finally ended when 2016’s “She’s Got a Way With Words” failed to reach number one. But he returned to reign over the charts with its followup singles, “A Guy with a Girl” and “Every Time I Hear That Song.”
Knowing that none of his number ones would have been possible without his fans, Shelton put together a touching message to thank them. He shared this message through a video on Twitter, which he posted on Wednesday (August 23).
Shot in black and white, the video shows Shelton walking around the backstage area at one of his concerts. The titles of his number one hits appear in yellow letters across the walls and other objects as he moves, while clips of the songs play faintly in the background.
You can hear the crowd begin to cheer with more enthusiasm as Shelton makes his way to the stage door. The final song title we see flashes across this door, and is none other than “Austin,” his first-ever number one hit.
The video concludes with Shelton singing “Austin” on the stage while the crowd illuminates the venue with the lights from their cell phones. Shelton’s personalized message appears at the end of the video, and reads, “Thank you for lettin’ me entertain you for two decades.“
You can watch Shelton’s entire “thank you” message to his fans in the video below. It’s clear how much he appreciates all of their support over the years!
