Out of all of the tracks on Blake Shelton's upcoming album Texoma Shore, he wrote only one of them. As you would expect, that song takes on a more personal tone than any of the other tracks on the album.
The name of that song is "Turnin' Me On," and it appears smack-dab in the middle of Texoma Shore as the album's sixth track. Shelton co-wrote the song with Jessi Alexander and Josh Osborne, and as you can guess from the title, it's pretty steamy.
It doesn't take long for any listener to realize who served as the inspiration behind "Turnin' Me On." That certain someone is Gwen Stefani, Shelton's girlfriend of two years.
Even Shelton himself acknowledged how obvious the reference was to Stefani, saying in a press release, "It's not hard to figure out who this song is about."
In case you don't get it right away, Shelton throws in a not-so-subtle line that clearly indicates that the song is about Stefani. It goes, "She's Revlon red in the blackest night." While the line seems simple on the surface, it connects to Stefani in more than one way.
The first reason why this line is a clear nod to Stefani is because she is one of Revlon's global ambassadors. Beyond that, the specific mention of red lipstick is also alluding to Stefani, since she is known for frequently rocking a red lip.
Going along with the "red" theme of things, the entirety of "Turnin' Me On" can best be described by saying that the song is red-hot. With lines such as "Her kisses taste like whiskey burning through my veins" and "If I'm what she wants, she gets what she wants," the song is unashamedly sexy.
