Jerry Greer, son of country singer Craig Morgan, has been found dead in Kentucky Lake in Humphreys County, Tennessee. The news was confirmed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency late Monday.

A search had been underway since around 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

The cause of death is unknown, but is assumed to be the result of injuries sustained after the 19-year old was thrown from an inner tube he was riding on with another teen.

“It was just as simple as hitting a wave and turning over and not coming back up,” Sheriff Chris Davis told reporters. Davis also confirmed that Greer was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.

Craig Morgan’s record label issued a statement early Monday while the search was underway.

“Recent Dickson County High School graduate Jerry Greer, son of country music entertainer Craig Morgan and wife Karen Greer, went missing yesterday following a boating accident on Kentucky Lake in Humphreys County, Tennessee. Recovery efforts to locate him are underway. The family is grateful for everyone’s support and prayers and requests privacy during this difficult time.”

Our deepest condolences to Craig Morgan and his family at this time.
