Cattle Rancher Delivers Passionate Performance Of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’

NBC/YouTube

Week two of ‘The Voice‘ blind auditions kicked off tonight (September 26) but was cut short because to the first Presidential debate of 2016. During tonight’s short, 1-hour episode we saw one of the reality singing competition’s most diverse groups to date: a YouTube star, a family man from Louisiana, a gospel singer, and the show’s first Spanish audition. But, it was a cattle rancher from Texas that caught our eye.

Josh Halverson sang his heart out to Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ while accompanying himself on guitar. Halverson’s family nervously waited in the wings for a chair to turn, and while it took awhile, eventually Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, and Blake Shelton all hit their buttons.

When asked by Alicia Keys about his background, Halverson shared that he grew up on ranches in Texas, but was looking for the opportunity to give his family a better life while doing what he loves to do.

Keys then told Halverson why he was a perfect fit for her team. “I turned around because your voice is striking,” Keys told the singer. “I know what music that feels good should sound like. I think it would be very unique and probably unexpected for us to rock together.”

Blake Shelton was next to try to win Halverson over and immediately tried to bond with him over their southern connections. “I feel like I have some kind of kinship to the voice I was hearing behind me. Then to turn around and see you and hear your story…I’d love to be your coach, dude.”

Shelton’s approach proved to be his demise as Halverson made it clear that the cattle industry and his southern roots are what he’s trying to get away from. Without any hesitation, Halverson chose to be a part of Team Alicia. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Josh Halverson!
