While Charley Pride has earned an variety of awards and achievements, including being the first African-American singer to perform at the Grand Ole Opry back in 1967, the country music legend has continued to surpass even the wildest of expectations with each following accomplishment.
Pride has just snagged perhaps one of the most admirable achievements of all, as he is set to be honored by the Recording Academy with the iconic Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes sensational artists, as president/CEO of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, explained,
"These exceptionally inspiring figures are being honored as legendary performers, creative architects and technical visionaries. Their outstanding accomplishments and passion for their respective crafts have created a timeless legacy."
It was back in the early 70s that pride rose to imminent success with his iconic song "Kiss An Angel Good Mornin'", in addition to his 29 other hits that rose to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs throughout his career. Pride recently joined the team of country legends that were showcased at this year's 50th CMA Awards, showing fans that his talent is as good as new!
