CMA Awards Break Television Ratings Record, But Not In A Good Way

CMA Awards Break Television Ratings Record, But Not In A Good Way | Country Music Videos

Wednesday night will go down in history as one of the greatest nights of television ever as viewers had the difficult task of choosing Game 7 of the World Series or the 50th Annual CMA Awards show. When country music’s biggest night was scheduled months ago, no one anticipated that Major League Baseball’s biggest night would interfere.

Despite the Country Music Association’s efforts to draw viewers, the World Series game crushed country music in terms of television ratings. The epic battle between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians drew the largest ratings in 26 years, while the CMA Awards ratings fell to an all-time low

The low numbers could be attributed to the fact that viewers wanted to watch World Series history unfold in real time. The ratings numbers also don’t take into account online views of CMA Awards videos in the days following the show’s broadcast.

Regardless, it was a historic night for all involved as the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years, Garth Brooks earned his fifth Entertainer of the Year title (his last being in 18 years ago), Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks riled the country fan base, and Randy Travis stole the show with a single word.
