Losing a loved one is never easy. Having that person be the man who raised you is even more difficult.
Cody Alan, who is a prominent figure in the country music community as host of CMT Hot 20 Countdown and radio DJ for iHeartMedia, took to Facebook on Wednesday (Sept. 20) to reveal that his father had passed away on Tuesday (Sept. 19).
"I'm sorry to share that my Dad passed away yesterday. He was a good man who loved his family," Alan wrote in the post. "Like me, he also loved music. Not a day of my childhood went by that he wasn't playing music in the house. I often share that it was because of my Dad that I became passionate for music and interested in radio. Even as a toddler, I loved to wear his big stereo headphones!"
Alan can be seen every weekend on CMT's Hot 20 Countdown, chatting with country music's biggest stars on the red carpet, or interviewing them in the radio studio. He has become one of the biggest TV/radio personalities in recent years, being known solely as "CMT Cody."
At the beginning of 2017, Alan came out publicly as gay, and has said that his family, including his father, was extremely supportive.
"I started approaching my closest friends and family first and let them know that this is something that’s been a part of my life since I was a kid and that through all my decisions in my life, I’d come to a point where I felt really happy with where I was," Alan told PEOPLE. "I wanted them to know where I’ve been and who I am."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Alan and the rest of his family.
