Just shortly after finishing writing songs in a Nashville bar, he was shot point-blank in the chest as an unidentified suspect attempted to hijack his car.
Witnesses informed law enforcement that they saw a man get shot during what appeared to be a carjacking attempt. After he was shot, he ran to the saloon and collapsed on the deck, begging for help.
The victim has been identified as local singer/songwriter, Matt Lovell, who sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and was rushed to the hospital. Currently he is in stable condition with a good prognosis, but he is facing an incredibly difficult road to recovery.
A close friend and lead singer of Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, wrote about the tragic incident on her social media account.
"Matt is a beloved friend to many and is one of the sweetest human beings I've ever known. We wrote together Friday morning, hung out all day and then he walked to his car and was shot in the chest in a random attempted carjacking. He is tough as nails, he survived this and is in recovery right this moment. He could use your prayers if you're able, some financial help. Please consider it if you're able."
Nash recently released her debut country album and has been hard at work crafting even more music alongside Lovell.
Due to his injuries, Lovell will not be able to perform or work for a good amount of time. Because of this, his friends have established a GoFundMe page to help their friend during his recovery, so he can get back on his feet.
