In the country music world, there is arguably no venue with a greater level of prestige than the Ryman Auditorium. The venue served as the permanent home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943-1974, and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
Today, the Ryman still hosts Opry shows in the months of November, December, and January. Other shows take place at the venue throughout the year, and it is usually a performance hub at the annual Country Radio Seminar.
In connection with CRS, Universal Music Group Nashville hosted a showcase at the Ryman on Tuesday (February 6). The showcase gave country singer Brandon Lay the chance to make his debut at the famed venue.
For a country artist, the day of their Ryman debut is always an exciting one. But Brandon’s Ryman debut day was especially celebratory.
While on the stage at the Ryman, Brandon revealed some major news…he’s going to be a father!
As Brandon shared, he and his wife, Nicole, are expecting their first child together. The two met years ago at the Miss Lexington beauty pageant, and she was crowned Miss Tennessee in 2010. They have been married since 2012.
After his big announcement, various people and media outlets flocked to social media to congratulate Brandon. He graciously thanked a few of them on Twitter, writing it was a “big day for sure” in response to one tweet.

So far, we don’t know Nicole’s due date, and the couple hasn’t yet revealed if they’re expecting a boy or a girl. We’re sure they’re overjoyed, and we’d like to congratulate them!
Check out a small snippet of Brandon’s happy day by tuning in to the clip below. This video was taken during his sound check at the Ryman, and shows him singing the beloved hymn, “I’ll Fly Away.”
What a day for him!
