Country Star Grieves Loss Of Grandparents Who Passed Away Within Hours Of Each Other

The last few days have been heartbreaking for rising country star Kelsea Ballerini.

On Wednesday (October 19), just before taking the stage to be honored as one of CMT’s Artists of the Year, Ballerini received a call saying that her grandfather had passed away.

When the singer accepted the CMT Breakout Artist Award she dedicated the honor to her grandfather.

“My granddad passed away this afternoon,” Ballerini said. “So this is for you.”

The following day, the Peter Pan singer took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and her grandfather saying, “It was an emotional day yesterday losing my grandpa. But an honor to stand on stage with his last name and do what I love knowing he had the best seat in the house.”

In a heartbreaking follow-up post on Instagram posted on Friday, Ballerini shared that her grandmother had died just 39 hours after her husband of 62 years.

“Grandma joined grandad in heaven this morning. Married 62 years and only lived without each other 39 hours. That’s the kind of love we can all only pray to find and keep. Bittersweet few days losing them both, but smiling knowing they are together continuing their love story. Again, thank you for the thoughts and prayers to my family. Especially my daddy.”
