A race took a terrifying turn at the NASCAR XFinity Series taking place at Indianapolis Speedway yesterday (July 22).
During a pit stop in the second segment of the race, Jason Allgaier accidentally ran down two of his crew members, sending his jack man Kyle Tudor flying over the hood of his car. After the collision, Allgaier ran over an air hose therein taking him out of contention.
Miraculously, the two pit members involved in the incident were cleared by doctors and obtained no serious injuries. However, the event resulted in Allgaier losing his 53-56 lead in the 100-lap race with 14 laps to go.
“I was already on the brakes and the guy behind me was still pushing me,” Allgaier said according to NASCAR. “Anybody that says pit crew members aren’t incredible athletes, that right there was a testament to these guys. (Tudor) had to sit one pit stop out because we had to wait until the doctor got down here.” He continued, “Just an unfortunate end to the day.”
However, even with his 35th-place finish, Allgaier – who drives No.7 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motor Sports – is still ranked third in points for the series.
