Roughly 50,000 Iowans filled up Kennick Stadium Saturday for the first ever Back Porch Revival. Proceeds from the event went to the Native Fund, a nonprofit launched by former NFL tight end Dallas Clark and actor Ashton Kutcher.
Prior to Back Porch Revival’s headlining act, Blake Shelton, taking the stage for more than two hours, “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” duo Big & Rich performed an impressive set followed by Thomas Rhett. It was during Rhett’s set that the crowd got a surprise they’ll be talking about for a long time to come.
While performing a cover of Garth Brooks’ “Friends In Low Places,” Rhett invited one of the event’s organizers and one of Hollywood’s biggest actors, Ashton Kutcher, to join him on stage for the third verse. Kutcher jumped right in after asking the crowd, “Do the Hawkeyes got my back on this one?”
While it took some beer and a little bit of encouragement from Rhett, but the “That ’70s Show” actor thrilled the crowd with his Garth Brooks rendition.
