NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt Jr. took to social media to ask for prayers following a devastating accident involving a World Superbike racer and MotoGP World champ. Nick Hayden, nicknamed "The Kentucky Kid", was training in Italy with a large group of cyclists when a car struck the racer, prompting him to be thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and into the windshield before slamming into the asphalt.
Hayden was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, said to have sustained severe head and chest injuries. The racer underwent surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma that was anticipated to persist for approximately 24 hours. Recent updates from Asphalt and Rubber indicate that the 35-year-old is in serious, but stable, condition.
Earnhardt Jr. reached out to his fanbase via Twitter to share the heartbreaking news and ask for prayers during this traumatic time. Italian news site Pubblisole also shared shocking images and footage after the frightening crash, showcasing the vehicles shattered windshield and Hayden's mangled bicycle post accident.
Hayden is currently involved in the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team. As the racer's health continues to be updated day by day, we ask that you continue to keep him in your prayers.
