"I wish I could return to the No. 88 team...To say I'm disappointed doesn't begin to describe how I feel, but I know this is the right thing for my long-term health and career," the racing star said recently in a press conference.
It was in that conference that Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he would no longer be racing this year, and danced around his plans to return next year. Later experts examined the situation from another perspective and said his team's actions are both 'cautious and fearful', hinting that they're afraid he may be out even longer.
But does that spell out retirement for the famed racer?
In a recent statement, Dale Jr. opened up about his rumored retirement and his feelings.
"I'm only 41," He said talking to the AP. "I've got some good years left. I think I'm as good as I've been inside the car. I feel like I'm still an asset to the team and to the company."
Retirement "is not something I think about", he added talking to ESPN.
Thankfully he doesn't have any retirement plans in the near future, and it looks like y'all will get a chance to see him on the track if he has anything to say about it!
