This former racing star and NASCAR frontman is shipping out to the Korean Peninsula for a whole new job - and he's really looking forward to it.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished up his career in NASCAR's Cup Series with the closing of the 2017 season and beyond racing in two Xfinity Series races this new year, Dale Jr. is heading out to Korea for his new position with NBC.
It looks like 2018 is shaping up to be a year of firsts for Dale Jr. as he recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary with wife Amy Earnhardt, then experienced brunch for the first time, and even sat down for his first pedicure! Now, he'll be visiting the Korean Peninsula for the very first time - but it's not for reasons you might think!
NBC Sports made an announcement on Tuesday (January 16th) that revealed their new partnership with Dale Jr. will have him featured as a broadcaster for its Super Bowl pregame show. In addition to that hefty responsibility, they are also shipping him off to South Korea for their coverage of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
"It's not going to be putting me anywhere outside of my comfort zone, obviously I've never been to a Super Bowl or South Korea," Earnhardt told The AP. "What they are asking me to do is just go out there and be myself and hopefully get people interested in tuning into NASCAR."
The network will feature Earnhardt in several events outdoors that take place in the days leading up to the big game. When he jets over to South Korea, he'll hop in a bobsled with the American team and check out the speed skating arena.
"We can't wait to get Dale's take on what is one of the most compelling aspects of the Winter Games — sports that offer a mix of speed with the prospect of danger, an equation that he knows very well," said the president of NBC Olympics Production and Programming. "Instead of the turns at Daytona, it's the downhill, the luge, and the short track oval. And I think he will have something unique to offer about the need for speed on snow and ice."
