Officials docked the famed driver just ahead of what will be his final race at Kansas Speedway – and he wasn’t the only one penalized after a seemingly-messy race at Talladega last weekend (May 7th).
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of six drivers who got penalized and docked practice time ahead of this Sunday’s Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway, but Dale Jr.’s team is also losing pit selection.
NASCAR officials revoked 15 minutes of practice time and pit choice from the driver and his team during his last run before retirement, but the reason for the penalty may surprise you.
According to NBC Sports, officials placed the penalties on Dale Jr. and the No. 88 team because he failed pre-race inspections at Talladega three separate times.
Other drivers like Kyle Larson, Chris Buescher, and Kyle Busch were also docked 15 minutes of practice time for similar reasons with Busch’s penalty was carried over from the rained-out Talladega practice.
What do you think of the penalty? Do you think this will have an impact on his performance this weekend?
