Country music was thriving during the 1960s, as artists delivered one smash hit after the next. Many of these songs crossed over to pop, placing country music at the forefront of the music industry.
The beginning of the decade was ruled by industry veterans such as Marty Robbins and Buck Owens, who continued to dominate the charts. But the latter part of the decade welcomed a few new artists into the fold, including Merle Haggard and Tammy Wynette. Within a few years, these artists would go on to achieve legendary status themselves.
Today, we continue to listen to the songs that hit it big during the 1960s. These songs have managed to stand the test of time, and remain in our hearts and minds.
