Blake Shelton’s 2016 album If I’m Honest directly followed his highly publicized divorce from fellow country artist Miranda Lambert as well as his new relationship with Gwen Stefani. The album addresses the highs and lows the country singer faced in 2015 with fans breaking down each lyric in attempt to gain insight on both relationships.
Prior singles off the album have been “Came Here to Forget” which documents a nights in a bar in which two people seek revenge on their ex and “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” which features Stefani herself and tells the story of a blossoming relationship between two people severely burned by their past. Shelton has selected “A Guy With a Girl” as his next single of the album, sharing a little more insight into his high profile relationship with his former costar.
The new single discusses being in a relationship where he is completely out shined by his “hypnotizing” significant other but being completely okay with it. “I’m just a guy with a girl everybody wants to know,” sings Shelton. “I’m invisible, but I stand right there and smile…But he ain’t never gonna let her, never gonna let her go.”
The truthful approach of If I’m Honest has been met with high success selling 153,000 copies in the first week quickly topping Billboard’s Top Country Album chart at No.1.
