After an emotional performance of her hit "Piece by Piece" detailing the faults of her father and triumphs of her husband live on American Idol, fans got a small glimpse into the unwavering romance between Kelly Clarkson and husband Brandon Blackstock. Clarkson may be Queen of singing songs about heartbreak, but it seems she lives a very different story in her personal life.
"He was the first guy I…said [I love you to] – and wanted to say it," Clarkson shared in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning With Charles Osgood. "I didn't feel like I had to. Because, like, 'Oh, that's what you have to do when you say it.'"
So how did the happily-in-love-couple originally meet? Blackstock's father is Clarkson's long-standing manager, Narvel Blackstock, who re-introduced the two at the 2012 Super Bowl where she sang the National Anthem. Clarkson and Blackstock had known each other since 2006 but didn't start romantically speaking until the reintroduction at the Super Bowl when they found themselves single for the first time since meeting.
"Brandon is my manager's son. I've known him for six years but he was married for most of that time," Clarkson told the Daily Mail later that year in 2012. "Then, suddenly, there he was at the Super Bowl and he was single…"
The two quickly made up for the lost time and embarked on a whirlwind romance seemingly out of a story book. Blackstock popped the question by the end of 2012 and the two married in October of the following year. They welcomed daughter River Rose in June 2014 and son Remington Alexander earlier this year.
"I've never been truly loved like I am right now," Clarkson said reportedly by Taste of Country. You can watch Kelly Clarkson's emotional dedication, "Piece by Piece," in the video below.
