A Song That Speaks True To Life

Without a doubt one of his most emotional songs, “Drink a Beer” is also one of Luke Bryan‘s biggest hits.

If you didn’t know any better, you’d listen to the song and swear that Bryan wrote it himself, since it seems to reflect his life experiences so well.

Luke has experienced a great deal of tragedy over the course of his 40 years of life. He’s had to cope with the loss of his brother and sister, as well as his brother-in-law. After dealing with so much heartbreak, it seems that the lyrics in “Drink a Beer” reflect Bryan’s own life story.

The Real Writers Behind It

If that’s the case, then it is a pure coincidence, since Bryan actually had no part in writing the song. In fact, one of the songs two writers is someone who is now a familiar face…Chris Stapleton.

Long before he become the vocal sensation that he is now, Stapleton ruled Nashville as one of its most successful songwriters. He helped pen Bryan’s “Drink a Beer,” among many other hits for other artists.

Bryan and Stapleton performed the song together during the 2013 CMA Awards, which ended up being one of the most memorable CMA performances of all time. As Bryan poured his heart and soul into the delivery of the song, Chris sat behind him and slightly to the side, as he sang the background vocals.

Surprising The Crowd With A Collaboration

During a concert in a packed Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, Bryan surprised the crowd when he welcomed Stapleton on stage to revisit their “Drink a Beer” duet. Only this time what made the duet different is that Stapleton didn’t only sing background vocals.

Bryan actually let him take the lead at several points, and it’s interesting to hear the song from Stapleton’s standpoint.

You could have heard a pin drop in the crowd as Bryan asked his crew to kill the lights. Everyone turned on the flashlights on their phones and waved them in the air, as Bryan and Stapleton delivered a chill-inducing performance of the last part of the song.

If you remember Bryan and Stapleton’s 2013 CMA performance, then you have to check this out. We’re sure it’s a moment that no one in the crowd that night will ever forget.
