On Thursday (September 15), news broke that former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon’s father, Robert “Baja Bob” Gordon, and stepmother, Sharon, had been found dead in their home in Orange, California. When initial reports rolled in on Thursday morning, Robby had not yet commented on the news. But now, Robby has finally broken his silence on the heartbreaking discovery.

Robert’s best friend went to check on the couple after Robert missed a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday (September 14). When he entered the home, Robert’s friend discovered Robert and Sharon’s bodies, and that’s when he called 911.

Robby told The Orange County Register that he will not comment on what exactly happened to his father and stepmother until he talks to the coroner. However, he said that he has an idea as to what caused his father and stepmother’s deaths.

The truth will come out,” he said as he issued a statement outside of his home, which is next door to his father and stepmother’s.

The Register reports that investigators believe that murder-suicide is a possibility in the case, but they have also not ruled out other possibilities, including a double suicide. No drugs were discovered in the home, according to Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez, but investigators did find a rifle.

This is devastating,” Robby said with tears in his eyes. He spoke about how his father played an important role in the life of other racers, since his father was an off-road racer himself.

Robby was scheduled to deliver a motivational speech at an elementary school on Thursday, but he canceled that appearance. However, he revealed that he still plans to participate in the off-road races he had scheduled in Costa Mesa over the weekend.

And to switch from what happened to a business mode really stinks,” Robby said.

We’ll update you when we hear more on this tragic case. In the meantime, we’ll continue to keep Robby and his family in our prayers.
