At only 22 years old, Christina Grimmie had her whole life ahead of her when tragedy struck. Following a concert in Orlando, Florida, Grimmie was shot multiple times while signing autographs for her fans. The Orlando police later confirmed that Grimmie had passed away as a result of her injuries.
Grimmie first got a taste of fame through her covers of popular songs on YouTube, but her big break came when she appeared on season six of The Voice. With Adam Levine as a her coach, Grimmie made it all the way to the finals, where she finished in third place.
In the days since Grimmie’s death, friends, family, fans, and other artists have honored her through social media and tribute performances. A candlelight vigil was held in her hometown of Evesham, New Jersey, during which her brother, Marcus, shared touching words about her.
“Christina was awesome,” he said. “She loved this town, she loved this state, she loved singing, she loved the Lord and she loved me. She was my baby sister.”
After hearing the news of Grimmie’s death, Levine personally called her mother and offered to pay for his former Voice team member’s funeral. Now, the details of Grimmie’s funeral have been released, with The New York Daily News reporting the private service will take place on Friday (June 17).
Grimmie’s funeral will be held in Medford, which is only a few minutes from her hometown.”It’s just going to be a small, intimate gathering for her family and close friends,” a source told People about Grimmie’s funeral.
The viewing for Grimmie will be at the Fellowship Alliance Chapel and a memorial service is scheduled to follow.
