The Tapatio Springs Resort, a Texas property purchased by country star George Strait and entrepreneur Tom P. Cusick Jr. in 2011, burned Saturday night (November 4). No injuries were reported and authorities are still investigating the cause.
Authorities said that the fire began in the attic and it quickly spread through the roof when they arrived to the scene.
“It’s early too say what happened,” Boerne Fire Chief Doug Meckel said late Saturday. “The attic was fully involved when the first crew arrived (just before 7 p.m.) They were evacuating the people who were inside.” Meckel added that the clubhouse was destroyed.
Tapatio Springs Resort sits on 220 acres in the Texas Hill Country. Its 18-hole golf course recently underwent a $2 million renovation.
The resort posted updates on its social media pages throughout the night Saturday, saying, “We are so sorry to report that a fire started in the Clubhouse this evening and the building is a total loss. We are tremendously grateful for our staff, guests, members and the fire departments that responded quickly, cleared the building to ensure everyone’s safety, and have provided so much to Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort.”
The resort later posted that it will be closed indefinitely.
“Given the Clubhouse serves so many different purposes essential to our member and guest experiences, Tapatio Springs Hill County Resort and The Club is closed indefinitely.”
Strait performed at the resort just one week ago where he raised $1.4 million for Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, a charity that benefits wounded service men and women.
