Sounds like talent runs deep in the Williams family! Hank 3 – son of Hank Williams Jr. and grandson to Hank Williams Sr. – delivered an explosive rendition of his grandfather’s hit song “Howlin’ At the Moon.”

Taking a change from his typical rocker-esque fashion, Hank 3 dons clothing strikingly similar to his famed grandfather. Armed with his acoustic guitar, the country singer takes fans back to the ’50s with his pure country rendition of William’s Sr.’s smash hit.

“Some friends of mine asked me to go out on a huntin’ spree/ ‘Cause there ain’t a hound dog in this state that can hold a light to me,” Hank 3 sings in a tone highly reminiscent of his grandfather. “I eat three bones for dinner today, then tried to tree a ‘coon/ You got me chasin’ rabbits, scratchin’ fleas and howlin’ at the moon.”

The 44-year-old singer currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and aims to produce real country music. While the singer doesn’t look too much like his father, many fans of Hank Williams Sr. have been taken back by his striking resemblance to his grandfather. Minnie Pearl – country comedian and close friend to the late Hank Williams – reportedly told Hank 3 upon meeting him, “Lord, honey, you’re a ghost.”

Howlin’ At the Moon” was written and recorded by Williams Sr. in 1951, the song rising to No.3 on the country singles chart the year of its release.  Following the untimely passing of the country music icon, George Jones recorded the tune for his 1960 tribute album, George Jones Salutes Hank Williams.

You can hear Hank 3’s rendition of “Howlin’ At the Moon” below.
