The band's co-founder tragically passed away on Tuesday, and it was announced to media outlets on Wednesday that he had passed.
According to a new report by The Miami Herald, Butch Trucks, who was the band's longtime drummer and co-founder took his own life on Tuesday (Jan. 24th).
The publication examined recently released police documents and discovered that Trucks' death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and the heartbreaking incident occurred at his home in West Palm Beach.
Furthermore, the report states that the 69-year-old legendary musician took his own life in the presence of his wife of 25 years, Melinda. Police records indicate that they do not suspect foul play in the matter.
In the days since his passing, other members of the band have expressed their deep feelings of loss without the person they'd known for so many years and traveled with across the world.
We are heartbroken to learn of Trucks' passing and our thoughts and prayers remain with his family and wife during this very difficult time.
