Is A ‘Hee Haw’ Revival In The Works?

We are living in a day and age where just about every movie and TV show from our hey days are getting a remake or reboot. Nostalgia is all the rage and some of the reboots are doing extremely well and have been picked up for second and third seasons.

Ryman Hospitality Properties has taken that into account, along with the success of the country music drama Nashville, and has now announced that they are considering bringing back the long-running comedic variety show Hee Haw, according to teh Nashville Business Journal.

“We think humor around country [music] is a good thing,” Ryman CEO Colin Reed said in front of a large crowd at Nashville Business Journal‘s Inside the C-Suite event. “We want to be in the content-distribution business and communicate country music and humor to people who don’t see this stuff.”

Hee Haw ran from 1962-1992 and featured sketches and characters that were centered around country music and rural living. It was hosted by Buck Owens and Roy Clark for most of its run and many now-legendary country singers appeared as co-host and to perform.

With the success of Nashville, the city has seen an increase in tourism, and if they resurrect Hee Haw, Ryman expects even more tourists to flood Music City.
