After it was announced that American Idol earned a reboot from ABC, fans started buzzing about who would sign on as judges. For the show's farewell season in 2016, the lineup consisted of Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and country star Keith Urban.
It was unknown whether or not any of the former judges would jump on the bandwagon for the Idol reboot. Before the show was picked up by ABC, Lopez told Ellen DeGeneres she wasn't sure if she would return as a judge if Idol came back.
While Idol has kept pretty tight-lipped about most of the details behind the reboot, one of the judges was finally revealed on May 16. Much to fans' surprise, they learned that pop star Katy Perry will be filling in as one of the judges on the show.
Following the announcement concerning Perry's addition, fans of Idol went wild. They also couldn't help but start wondering again if any of the former judges would return for the new season.
All country fans have been curious to know if Urban will consider a return to the show. Finally, Urban discussed his potential return to Idol during an interview on The Graham Norton Show. But what he had to say probably isn't what you were hoping to hear.
"I don't know and I have no idea who's coming back," he said. "I don't even know if I'm coming back."
Although that wasn't a "yes," it wasn't a "no" either! Maybe Urban is coming back to the show, and he's just supposed to keep it quiet until the rest of the judges are confirmed. We sure hope that's the case!
While you wait to find out if Urban will make his return to Idol, tune in to the clip below of him performing with Carrie Underwood during the farewell season. Fingers crossed that this performance won't be the last we'll ever see of Urban on the show!
