It’s been one week since the horrifying accident that placed Jamie Lynn Spears‘ 8-year old daughter, Maddie Aldridge, in the hospital.

Maddie was riding an ATV in Kentwood, Louisiana, when it flipped into a pond. According to a police report released to PEOPLE, the 8-year old took a hard right in order to avoid hitting a drainage ditch.

In doing so, she overcorrected causing the ATV to enter the pond. The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes,” the report reads. “Within seconds the child’s mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”

Maddie was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she was admitted in critical condition. In what can only be called a miracle, the child was released from the hospital just 5 days after the accident. Her mother, Jamie Lynn, shared the news on social media Friday, saying,

“Thanks to the amazing first responders, and medical teams at University and Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, LA, we are headed home with our baby girl as she continues to recover. Above all else we are so thankful for each and every prayer, because we know that is what truly made the difference. Thank you again to everyone. We are truly blessed.”

On Sunday, Maddie’s grandmother, Lynne Spears, gave fans an update as to how her granddaughter is doing.

“I really don’t know how to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have prayed continuous prayers for Maddie at this very difficult time! Thank you, God bless you and I know that the huge outflow of Prayers created this miracle and has humbled my family and I! Maddie is doing great and getting better everyday!!”

We are so thankful to hear that Maddie is doing well, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.
