The world was rocked when news broke that one of the most powerful voices in rock music had tragically passed away. Chris Cornell, the man behind rock band Soundgarden which helped pave the way for grunge music, died Wednesday night at age 52.

The singer has collaborated with artists of all genres of music, including country music superstar Jason Aldean. Following the news of the tragic passing of the rock legend, Aldean took to Instagram to post an emotional tribute to a man who paved the way for so many artists.

“Sad to hear the passing of Chris Cornell this morning,” wrote Aldean. “He was a class act and a true rockstar.”

Back in 2014, the two unlikely friends joined forces at CMT Artists of the Year for for a rocking duet of Aldean’s song “Just Gettin’ Started.” While the two singers never collaborated again, the country singer looks back on the event as one of found memory.

“I only got to work with Chris once, but he was a true rock star,” Aldean said according to Rolling Stone Country. “He was a badass on stage and a class act off stage.”

In addition to Aldean, Zac Brown Band, Steven Tyler, and many more have come together to pay their respects to the late rock legend.
