Jennifer Nettles, lead singer of country duo Sugarland, was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning after she tripped over a bulky lighting fixture and fell off of the stage.

Nettles was making her way to the stage where she was set to perform as part of a Time Inc. presentation to advertisers in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.  She had been scheduled to sing for a segment that the company was pitching to advertisers for a new video series called “American Anthem.”

Witnesses claim that the singer lay on the concrete floor clutching her side as she criedin pain, “I broke my rib.”

Aides rushed to help Nettles and “whisked” her away through a back door, the witnesses said. Nettles was taken to Bellevue Hospital via ambulance.

The singer posted an update on Twitter late Thursday that confirmed her earlier self-diagnosis. “Hi loves. Thanks for all your kind wishes. Broken rib and banged up, but grateful. Maybe slowly moving for a bit. But I’ll rally.”

Nettles posted additional updates thanking those who came to her aide and compared the pain of her broken rib to that of having a baby.

It is unclear if Nettles remained hospitalized. We wish Jennifer a full and speedy recovery.
