Through an open letter to her beloved fans, this country music star revealed one of the most personal and trying battles - and expressed her immense gratitude and faith.
Jo Dee Messina has been a widely known musician and country performer for more than 20 years and has soared across the charts with five No. 1 singles and multiple platinum-selling albums.
Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, September 6th, Messina and her team opened up about her recent cancer diagnosis and her outlook for the future.
"Over the years, Jo Dee has built a close relationship with her fans, so those of us at Team JDM wanted to be the first to let you know that she was recently diagnosed with cancer. It has been a trying summer, but her heart has been filled with gratitude for the many opportunities she has had to see God's hand at work."
The team touches on her deep connection with her faith and God, saying that she has found precious joys and teachings through this very difficult time, adding "it is because of our Father's love that she has been able to find the beauty in the days that could have brought her the most fear."
As of posting time, Messina's team said that a fully-fledged treatment plan hadn't been established, but expressed her need to withdraw from touring and focus on her health as the major priority.
"Jo Dee is working closely with a team to explore all [treatment] options," The team wrote. "She has taken the semester off from classes...and her last tour date for the year will be October 7th."
All other tour dates that had been scheduled will be postponed and, hopefully, rescheduled.
While her team did not reveal what type or stage of cancer Messina is battling, they did express she will be going through treatments this fall.
Our hearts break over this very difficult battle Jo Dee Messina is facing, and our thoughts and prayers are with her during this time.
