Dancing With the Stars veterans, Julianne and Derek Hough, made a triumphant return to their old stomping ground to debut a heartbreaking dance inspired by one of the most difficult times of their lives.
The multi-talented siblings broke hearts all over the nation with a captivating routine about the most painful time of their childhood, their parents' divorce. Dancing to the tune of the X Ambassadors' "Unsteady," Julianne and Derek exposed their vulnerable side through the ultra relatable dance.
The brother-sister duo express what it was like watching their family fall apart at such a young age, a 9-year-old Julianne sent to live with her mother and 12-year-old Derek with his father. A few days after the dance went viral, Julianne opened up what the dance meant to her on her blog in a post title "Unsteady: The Story Behind The Dance."
"It was an opportunity for us to tell our story while expressing our deepest emotions, the ones we’ve protected the longest and the most," she wrote. "Many of you might be able to relate to our dance which represented some of the tougher times my family went through when I was growing up....I mean this from my heart — whatever you are going through is going to work out in time and it will be for the best."
Even though the divorce may have been painful for them to endure, some good did come from it. A year following their parent's divorce the Hough siblings were sent to a dance academy in London, England where their explosive talent was revealed.
