It's finally been made official! After much speculation surrounding who would perform at the opening of Detroit's forthcoming Little Caesars Arena, the announcement was made that Kid Rock will be honored as the premiere performer.
Yesterday (Jan. 18) before the news broke, Little Caesars Arena's official twitter account teased that major news would be coming out the following morning, prompting rumors to circulate. Some people believed that a face-off between the Detroit Red Wings and another star NHL team would be the ideal way to kick off the stadium's year, however, Rock remained at the top of many Michigan native's list due to the rockstar's undying love to his home state.
Rock will play four shows at the arena in September to launch the venue, kicking it all off Sept. 12. Over the past few decades, the singer has proven himself as a long draw to the state, playing to sold-out shows at every major venue in the Michigan area.
The rockstar made headlines in 2016 as a major supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, even rolling out a series of pro-Trump merchandise following the November election.
Rock's performances at LCA are set for a month in advance before the Red Wings kick off their 2017-2018 season at the $635 million venue.
