Every Labor Day weekend, fans from all over the country travel to Loretta Lynn‘s ranch for a special performance.
According to her Facebook, the weekend consisted of “camping, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, corn hole, horseshoes, walking on trails, horseback riding, live music with the Van Lear Sisters and so much more.“
Fans could also tour her plantation home, and the 18,000 square foot “Coal Miner’s Daughter” Museum. When they arrived for the fun-filled weekend, they were told some devastating news – Loretta Lynn would not be performing.
Once fans heard the reasoning behind her absence, they changed their tune because it was announced that Lynn had fallen and “hit her head and chest area” as well as her hip.
A fan commented on her Facebook page saying, “We were there, unfortunately due to something unexpected Loretta didn’t perform. We were very upset, the concert was good with Crystal Gayle, but no Loretta.”
Another wrote, “Was so excited for this concert. Brought my mom all the way from Newfoundland. Was very sad to hear you wouldn’t be performing. We were even more distraught when we got the news of your serious fall. Heal fast Ms. Loretta. You truly are a country music legend.“
The 84-year-old country legend rarely cancels shows, so we know she was not well. According to Rare Country, Lynn’s sister, Crystal Gayle performed in her place and read a letter to Lynn’s adoring fans that said:
“I thank you all for coming, and I’m sorry I can’t be there with you. I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up. I injured my chest and can’t get a deep enough breath to sing, but I’ll update you Monday [Sept. 5] after I see the doctor.”
Our prayers go out to Loretta Lynn and we hope for a speedy recovery.
