Rescue and relief efforts continue in the hurricane ravaged areas of south Texas. Thousands of people and animals were displaced after Hurricane Harvey made landfall and caused catastrophic flooding. But, people from all over the country are offering their talents and money to help those affected.

One of those heroes is country star and Texas native Miranda Lambert. A vocal animal lover, Lambert and her MuttNation Foundation headed to the Houston area to help animals who had lost their homes or had been separated from their owners. During their first day, the foundation rescued 72 dogs and sent them to Oklahoma where they will be cared for while waiting for flood waters to recede.

In the days leading up to MuttNation’s trip to south Texas, Lambert and her team of volunteers gathered vans, trucks, and campers to transport the animals.

“It was important to our AMAZING founder, @mirandalambert that we do our part for her home state!” MuttNation wrote on Instagram. “We are headed to Houston to give relief to municipal shelters. We will help transport any animals currently in shelters so that there is room for displaced animals from Hurricane Harvey! Plus any other support we can offer!!! You can help our efforts by donating!”

Lambert also shared photos of relief efforts on Instagram. “Thanks to some amazing transportation volunteers…We sent over 70 pups to our shelter in Oklahoma today. Our rigs are now rolling into Houston for another load. Continue to send prayers and donations.”
