On Sunday (August 20th), a crew member for Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s own racing team and mechanic for Michael Annett’s No. 5 car that runs for the Earnhardt team tragically passed away following a car accident.
33-year-old Michael Adam Wright died over the weekend following what appears to be a single-car-accident, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol and a report from Statesville Record & Landmark.
Wright worked for Dale Jr.’s racing team he co-owns, JR Motorsports, on the roster as a mechanic for Annett’s NASCAR Xfinity Series crew.
The news report states that Wright was traveling south on a local Troutman, NC road around 11 p.m. when he veered off the road twice, becoming airborne. Because Wright wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, officials stated that he was partially ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.
An investigation is still ongoing into the direct cause of the accident, but members of the community have spoken out about Wright’s character, with his neighbor saying, “He was the type of guy that if you needed something, it was yours to borrow…I still have some of his tools in my shed.“
Our thoughts and prayers are with Wright’s family and friends as well as all his cherished coworkers and colleagues at JR Motorsports.
